However, when left untreated, it can lead to potential complications that include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Stroke <\/li><li>Kidney damage<\/li><li>Nerve damage<\/li><li>Heart disease<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Normally after you eat or drink, your body will break down sugars from your food and use them for energy in your cells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"types-of-diabetes\">Types-of-diabetes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The effects of diabetes on your body also depend on the type you have. There are&nbsp;two&nbsp;main types of diabetes:&nbsp;type 1&nbsp;and&nbsp;type 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Type 1,<\/strong> also called juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes is an immune system disorder. Your own immune system attacks the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, destroying your body\u2019s ability to make insulin. With type 1 diabetes, you must take insulin to live. Most people receive their type 1 diagnosis as a child or young adult<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Type 2<\/strong>&nbsp;is related to&nbsp;insulin resistance. It used to occur in older populations, but now younger populations are developing type 2 diabetes too. This is a result of a certain lifestyle, dietary, and exercise habits.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.medchunk.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/661_result.webp\" alt=\"legs\" class=\"wp-image-1231\" width=\"633\" height=\"422\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.medchunk.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/661_result.webp 591w, https:\/\/www.medchunk.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/661_result-300x200.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 633px) 100vw, 633px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"symptoms-of-untreated\">Symptoms of untreated diabetes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the common signs and symptoms of diabetes mellitus are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Frequent urination<\/li><li>Increased thirst<\/li><li>Excessive fatigue<\/li><li>Extreme hunger <\/li><li>Blurry vision<\/li><li>Bruises\/cuts heal very slowly<\/li><li>Unexplained and unintentional weight loss&nbsp;despite increased consumption (type 1 symptom)<\/li><li>Pain, numbness, or tingling in your hands and feet (type 2 symptom)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"091e9c5e8000851e-1-2\">Heart and Blood Vessels<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Heart disease&nbsp;and blood vessel disease are common problems for many people who don\u2019t have their diabetes under control. You&#8217;re at least twice as likely to have heart problems and strokes as people who don\u2019t have the condition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Blood vessel damage or&nbsp;nerve damage&nbsp;may also cause foot problems that, in rare cases, can lead to amputations.
