Treatment and symptoms of GGT 65 U/L | Diet for normal Gamma glutamyl transferase level 65 U/L

GGT 65

Normal GGT level of 65 can cause a number of symptoms.

An abnormal GGT (Gamma-glutamyl transferase) level of 65 may point toward liver dysfunction, alcohol consumption effects, or bile duct obstructions. When GGT is abnormal at 65, symptoms might include fatigue, jaundice, nausea, or abdominal pain. GGT is a sensitive marker for liver and bile duct health and can assist in evaluating conditions such as alcoholic liver disease or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Consistently abnormal values may prompt lifestyle changes or further liver diagnostics. While many treatments can help, your diet should be the first thing you address.

Below are the symptoms and treatments associated with high GGT (Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase) levels:

  • Symptoms of High GGT Levels:
    • Fatigue or weakness
    • Abdominal pain, especially in the upper right abdomen
    • Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)
    • Dark-colored urine
    • Loss of appetite
    • Nausea or vomiting
  • Treatments for High GGT Levels:
    • High GGT levels are commonly associated with liver disease, bile duct problems, or alcohol abuse. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause.
    • If high GGT levels are caused by liver disease (e.g., hepatitis, cirrhosis), treatment may include antiviral medications, lifestyle changes (e.g., avoiding alcohol), and monitoring liver function regularly.
    • If high GGT is related to alcohol consumption, reducing or eliminating alcohol intake is crucial for normalizing GGT levels and preventing further liver damage.
    • If the high levels are due to bile duct obstruction or cholestasis, medical procedures such as a bile duct clearance or surgery may be necessary to relieve the obstruction.
    • In cases where medications are contributing to high GGT levels, adjusting the medication under the guidance of a healthcare professional may help lower GGT.

What to do after GGT blood test?

If bleeding occurs after your GGT test, raise your arm and apply pressure to the spot for at least 3 minutes. It’s normal to see some bruising after a GGT blood draw. If you feel pain following the GGT test, apply ice wrapped in a towel to the area for 10 minutes. For anything more than mild discomfort, contact your doctor.
