Treatment and symptoms of TIBC 100 mcg/dL | Diet for low Total iron binding capacity level 100 mcg/dL

TIBC 100

Low TIBC level of 100 can cause a number of symptoms.

An abnormal Total Iron-Binding Capacity (TIBC) of 100 may suggest alterations in the body's capacity to transport iron, reflecting iron metabolism or storage issues. A TIBC value of 100 is typically evaluated alongside serum iron and transferrin saturation to assess for conditions like anemia, chronic disease, or liver dysfunction. Abnormal TIBC levels can indicate the presence of inflammation, malnutrition, or excessive iron loss, helping in differential diagnosis of anemia types. You have several treatments to choose from, but the most important thing is to change your diet now.

Below are the symptoms and treatments associated with low TIBC levels:

  • Symptoms of Low TIBC (Hypoferremia):
    • Low TIBC levels may indicate that there is less transferrin (iron-binding protein) available to carry iron in the bloodstream, which is commonly seen in cases of malnutrition, liver disease, or chronic inflammation.
    • Symptoms related to the underlying condition may include fatigue, weakness, pale skin, or shortness of breath, especially if the low TIBC is associated with iron deficiency anemia.
    • In some cases, low TIBC can reflect chronic illness or liver dysfunction, where transferrin production is impaired.
  • Treatments for Low TIBC Levels:
    • If the low TIBC is due to iron deficiency, iron supplementation (oral or intravenous) may be required to raise iron levels in the body.
    • Managing the underlying causes such as liver disease or chronic inflammation may help restore normal TIBC levels.
    • In cases of malnutrition, improving nutritional intake, particularly of protein and iron-rich foods, is important for increasing transferrin production.

What to do after TIBC blood test?

If bleeding occurs after your TIBC test, raise your arm and apply pressure to the spot for at least 3 minutes. It’s normal to see some bruising after a TIBC blood draw. If you feel pain following the TIBC test, apply ice wrapped in a towel to the area for 10 minutes. For anything more than mild discomfort, contact your doctor.
