How Colby Sims treated high rdw?

Note - This article is written by one of our patients about their experiences with high rdw.

My RDW value is 18.5. I recently learned this unexpected information. It was unexpected, especially considering that I had recently been married and was eager to start a new chapter in my life. I felt anxious and apprehensive as I tried to understand what the increased RDW level would indicate for my health and future.

I stood at the altar some months ago and married the person I love. It was a joyous day with of hopes for a long and happy relationship. I had no idea that the road ahead would turn in an unexpected direction.

My doctor found out I had a high RDW level during a normal check-up. The news shocked and alarmed me. RDW, or Red Cell Distribution Width, is a measurement of the size variance of red blood cells, according to my doctor. An RDW value of 18.5 suggested an anomaly even if it typically falls within a certain range.

I was overcome with fear as I looked for information on the potential causes. In an effort to discover answers or reassurance that might allay my worries, I dived into my investigation. But as I read more, my scepticism increased. High RDW levels have been linked to a number of diseases, including severe blood problems and nutritional deficits. I was paralysed by the possibilities, and my anxiousness out of control.

I had imagined a future of pleasure and shared experiences with my partner as a newlywed. But for now, the gravity of this illness loomed over our happiness. I felt guilty and wondered whether I had done something wrong or if this unanticipated health problem was somehow my fault.

I confided in my partner in the midst of the chaos, and he or she became my pillar of strength. During those trying times, I was able to gain courage thanks to their steadfast love and certainty. We agreed to work together to overcome this obstacle and made the decision to do so collectively.

I was determined to find answers, so I made follow-up meetings and sought out experts who could explain my elevated RDW levels. I went through a flurry of medical tests and consultations, which brought up a strange combination of fear and excitement.

I eventually ended up in a hematologist's office, a professional who specialises in blood diseases. I felt at ease because of their professionalism and calm demeanour, which made it possible for me to be open about my worries and fears. The haematologist performed a thorough examination, prescribed additional tests, and reassured me that we would rule out every possibility before making any decisions.

As I awaited the results of the additional tests, days stretched into weeks. Every day seemed to drag on for ever, bringing with it a mix of hope and worry. I relied on my loved ones during this waiting period for assistance. They provided a reassuring presence, allowing me to occasionally escape the deluge of thoughts that dominated me.

The long-awaited day finally came, and I went back to the hematologist's office to go over the test outcomes. My increased RDW levels, according to the haematologist, were predominantly brought on by a concomitant vitamin B12 and iron deficient anaemia. Even though the news presented difficulties, it also provided a sense of comfort because it showed that the problem was controllable and treated.

The haematologist provided a treatment plan that included dietary modifications, vitamins, and routine blood level monitoring. Recognising that worry might negatively affect my general wellbeing, they emphasised the significance of self-care and stress management.

I started down a path to greater health with a fresh outlook and a better awareness of my circumstance. I made dietary adjustments, including the addition of nutrient-rich foods, and sought the advice of a nutritionist to make sure I was meeting my body's demands. I regularly went in for check-ups to track my development and faithfully took the vitamins that were prescribed.

My partner was a continual source of comfort and support during this journey. My recuperation was kept in focus by their support and encouragement, which served as a constant reminder that nothing stood in our way if we worked as a team.

My RDW levels gradually started to return to normal. Even though there were bumps on the road and disappointments along the way, I remained dedicated to becoming better. I observed improvements and felt a renewed sense of hope thanks to persistence, my healthcare team's assistance, and the support of my loved ones.

As I think back on my experience with having high RDW levels, I'm thankful for the lessons it has imparted. I've discovered how crucial it is to stand up for my health, ask for assistance from loved ones, and avoid letting fear obscure the beauty and joy life has to offer. While my path is still ongoing, I face the future with fortitude, vigour, and a profound understanding of the strength of love and tenacity in conquering hardship.
