How Kevin Chambers treated high rdw?

Note - This article is written by one of our patients about their experiences with high rdw.

My name is Kevin Chambers, and I want to relate my personal experience of being diagnosed with high RDW (Red Cell Distribution Width) and how I was able to reduce it to a healthier level. My daily life began to be influenced by a number of unsettling symptoms, and that is when everything started.

I started to experience chronic weariness and a lack of energy around the age of 40. These symptoms persisted no matter how much sleep I received. Simple duties like cleaning the house or climbing stairs got more and more challenging. In addition, I discovered that infections affected me more easily and that my recovery time was longer. I made the decision to seek medical advice because of these lingering problems.

A thorough blood test was one of many examinations performed during my visit to the doctor. My RDW level was 17, which was over the normal limit, according to the findings. According to my doctor, RDW is a measurement of the size variability of red blood cells, and an excessive RDW level may be a sign of underlying disorders such anaemia, vitamin deficiencies, or chronic illnesses. To find out why my RDW levels were so high, more research was necessary.

Additional tests, such as a complete blood count, iron studies, and evaluations of vitamin levels, were carried out to identify the underlying problem. Due to my minor iron deficiency, which was shown by these tests, my RDW levels were high. Red blood cells need iron to form normally, and a lack of it can cause changes in the size and distribution of these cells.

I was glad to have a diagnosis and a course of action after learning this knowledge. I was committed to lowering my RDW value to a healthy level in order to reclaim my vigour. In order to replace my iron stores, my doctor recommended iron supplements and suggested that I include foods high in iron in my diet, such as leafy greens, lean meats, legumes, and fortified cereals. I also started taking vitamin C tablets since it helps the body absorb iron.

A few lifestyle changes were necessary to manage high RDW levels. I prioritised eating a diet that was well-balanced and high in iron-containing foods. I made a meal plan with the intention of including these nutrient-dense foods while gradually removing processed items from my diet. It also became crucial for me to stay hydrated and restrict my intake of caffeine and alcohol because these substances can prevent iron from being absorbed.

I prioritised my overall health in addition to making food modifications. I began incorporating regular exercise into my schedule, starting with easy pursuits like yoga and walking. This not only increased my energy levels but also helped me feel less stressed and happier overall. Making relaxation a priority and getting enough sleep every night became essential to assisting my body in mending.

The help of my family was essential during this trip. They supported me and never wavered in their words of compassion, sympathy, and assistance. They actively took part in the planning and preparation of our family's meals, making sure that they were nourishing and contained foods high in iron. They also joined me in adding exercise into our daily schedules, making it enjoyable and a chance for us to spend time together.

My family evolved into my emotional rock solid foundation. My worries, annoyances, and fears could be voiced in a secure environment thanks to them. During trying times, their sympathetic listening and words of support helped me maintain my good attitude. My illnesses no longer significantly affected my daily life because to their persistent support.

I eventually started to see improvements in my health. My energy levels progressively increased, and the chronic exhaustion began to lessen as I faithfully adhered to my therapy regimen. My RDW levels were consistently dropping, which showed that my efforts were having an impact, according to follow-up blood tests.

My experience dealing with high RDW levels has taught me the value of proactive self-care and the power of a support network. I advise anyone experiencing such difficulties to consult a doctor, have the appropriate tests, and create a unique treatment plan. Make sure you have a network of loved ones at your side who will encourage you and walk with you as you pursue better health.

Never forget that you are not alone. Together, we can overcome challenges, take care of our health, and live happy lives.
