How Kyla Krueger treated high ferritin?

Note - This article is written by one of our patients about their experiences with high ferritin.

My name is Kyla Krueger, and I just recently struggled a lot with having high ferritin levels. Everything started when I made the decision to shift careers and follow my passion for teaching. I had to get a full blood checkup as part of the recruiting procedure for my new work to make sure I was healthy and in good condition overall. I had no idea that this normal checkup would reveal a health problem that would have a significant influence on my life.

I never expected anything less than a clean bill of health as I anxiously awaited the results of my blood test. However, I was shocked to hear the news when the doctor called to go over my results. My ferritin levels, which were 630 ng/mL, were excessively high, he informed me. Elevated levels of ferritin, a protein that the body uses to store iron, may be a sign of an underlying disease.

The news shocked me, and I felt a mixture of uncertainty and concern. I had always thought of myself as a rather healthy person, and this abrupt finding made me wonder about my health. I began looking into the implications of elevated ferritin levels and quickly discovered that they might indicate an iron excess or possibly a more serious disorder like hemochromatosis.

I sought additional medical counsel right away because I was determined to deal with the situation and take back control of my health. I made an appointment with a haematology expert, who performed a number of extra tests to fully evaluate my condition. The findings showed that I did not have hemochromatosis but that I did have too much iron in my body.

Knowing the problems that could result from having high ferritin levels, I set out on a quest to reduce them and rebalance my body. Changing one's diet was the first step. I sought the advice of a nutritionist who assisted me in creating a food plan to lessen my intake of iron. I learnt to stay away from foods high in iron including red meat, organ meats, and some kinds of shellfish. Instead, I concentrated on increasing my intake of fruits, vegetables, and plant-based proteins to help my body's normal iron homeostasis.

I altered my nutrition in addition to adding regular exercise to my schedule. It has been demonstrated that exercise improves general health and encourages the body to use iron more effectively. I started running and enrolled in a local yoga class, which not only helped me get fitter but also gave me a much-needed stress and anxiety release.

I came to understand the value of having a support network during this trip. I joined internet forums and support groups where people who had gone through similar things shared their experiences and provided guidance. It was tremendously motivating to hear about other people's trials and victories in fighting high ferritin levels. It helped me understand that there was a multitude of information and assistance accessible and that I wasn't going through this road alone.

I faithfully followed my new diet and exercise plan and had follow-up blood tests to check my ferritin levels on a regular basis. My ferritin levels gradually decreased over time, showing that my efforts were paying off. It didn't happen immediately, but with time and effort, I was able to get my ferritin levels back to where they should be.

I learned the value of proactive health management and the strength of sharing stories from my battle with high ferritin levels. By being candid about our struggles and journeys, we give others a chance to learn and take solace in the knowledge that they are not alone. I urge anyone dealing with comparable health issues to consult a specialist, change their lifestyle if needed, and enlist the help of their friends, family, and neighbours.
