How Makenna Fernandez treated high ferritin?

Note - This article is written by one of our patients about their experiences with high ferritin.

Makenna Fernandez is my name, and I am a high school student with lofty goals for the future. I enjoy playing football, hanging out with my pals, and learning about the wonders of science. I was astonished and unsure of what was ahead when a regular check-up at the doctor's office suddenly revealed a startling health concern.

My parents called me on a typical day to let me know that it was time for my yearly physical. I went to the doctor's office anticipating a usual checkup, despite the fact that I felt absolutely well and healthy. I had no idea that this visit would result in some surprising news.

I entered the examination room and was greeted by Dr. Thompson, a friendly and approachable doctor. She indicated that my blood test results were in after going through the standard check-up questions. I saw a change in her countenance and knew something wasn't quite right.

Dr. Thompson said softly, "Daniel, I have some worrying news about your ferritin levels. "Ferritin levels in people your age typically range from 20 to 250 nanograms per millilitre. Your findings, however, point to a threshold of 600 nanograms per millilitre that is noticeably increased.

The news surprised me, leaving me with mixed feelings of uncertainty and concern. Ferritin? I didn't really comprehend what it meant. Ferritin is a protein that stores iron in the body, as Dr. Thompson kindly explained. A surplus of iron may be indicated by elevated ferritin levels, which could have negative effects on one's health.

She went on to say that a number of illnesses, including chronic inflammation, liver disease, and hereditary problems, could be the reason of elevated ferritin levels. Dr. Thompson reassured me that additional examinations were necessary to ascertain the root of the problem and establish the best course of action. I couldn't help but be astonished and worried about the implications this would have for my future.

Uncertainty followed in the weeks that followed. I struggled with concerns about my health and found it difficult to concentrate on my schoolwork. My close friends helped me feel supported and reassured throughout this worrying time when I confided in them. Their support kept me upbeat and served as a reminder of my resiliency.

I took it upon myself to learn about ferritin and its consequences when further tests were performed. I learned that if untreated, elevated ferritin levels may have an impact on a number of organs and possibly cause issues. With this information in hand, I took a proactive role in managing my health.

I was eventually given the results, which proved that I had hereditary hemochromatosis, a genetic disorder. My body absorbed too much iron as a result, which increased my ferritin levels. Despite being happy to obtain a diagnosis, I was also aware that it would bring with it fresh difficulties.

Dr. Thompson stated that the main goals of treatment would be to control my iron levels and avoid problems. It was suggested that I undergo therapeutic phlebotomy, a procedure comparable to blood donation, to get rid of more iron from my body. I was nervous about having monthly blood tests, but I knew how important it was to put my health first.

It became difficult to strike a balance between school, therapy, and daily life. Even though some days were harder than others, I managed to get through them thanks to the unfailing support of my loved ones, friends, and medical experts. They reassured me that I could still achieve my goals and that this illness was only a diversion in my trip.

I developed a fresh sense of ownership for my health. I became knowledgeable about hereditary hemochromatosis, modified my diet to consume less iron, and went to frequent doctor's appointments to have my condition checked. I refused to let it prevent me from achieving my goals, even if it required more discipline and effort.

I gained sympathy and understanding for people who are dealing with health issues as a result of this encounter. I developed become an advocate, educating my friends about hereditary hemochromatosis and planning events to fund relevant research. I wished to use my own experience as a means of giving back to others.

In the midst of it all, I discovered important truths about resiliency, flexibility, and the power of the human spirit. My experience with having high ferritin levels became a significant part of who I am today and made me a sensitive and tenacious person. It served as a reminder that setbacks are just temporary and that, with the correct attitude, I could get beyond any difficulty.

I know that my health comes before anything else as I pursue my goals and further my knowledge. I welcome the unexpected and proactively take care of my needs. Even if my path may have taken an unexpected turn, I am still optimistic and dedicated to changing the world for the better despite the difficulties I encounter.
