How Ander Hamilton treated high hematocrit?

Note - This article is written by one of our patients about their experiences with high hematocrit.

I'm Ander Hamilton, and for a while now, I've had to deal with the difficulties brought on by having a high hematocrit. With a hematocrit reading of 52.5, my anxiety skyrocketed, especially given how demanding my job was. Let me describe my experience dealing with high hematocrit levels and the methods I took to get rid of them.

As a highly motivated person, I have consistently chased professional achievement with unwavering tenacity. However, the stress and pressure from my job frequently had a negative impact on my mental and physical health. My anxiety became a daily companion, and when I discovered that my hematocrit levels were high, it got even worse.

My doctor advised me during a routine checkup that my hematocrit level was higher than the standard range for men, which is between 38% and 50%. With a reading of 52.5%, I understood how critical it was to address this problem right away to avoid any potential issues.

I made the decision to put my general well-being first and implement good adjustments in my life after realising that stress had a big impact on the high levels of my hematocrit. Stress management became a top priority, and I started implementing several methods to ease tension and reestablish equilibrium.

Finding moments of peace amidst the turmoil of my daily schedule became much easier with the help of mindfulness and meditation. These techniques assisted me in finding my centre, unwinding, and reducing my anxiety. In order to lessen the load on myself, I also learnt to set limits in my professional life by giving jobs a higher priority and assigning assignments to others.

Knowing the value of taking care of oneself, I made an attempt to live a healthier lifestyle. I changed my eating habits, placing more of an emphasis on wholesome foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains while consuming less processed food. My routine's non-negotiable requirement for regular exercise helped me enhance my cardiovascular health and lower my hematocrit levels.

Despite these beneficial adjustments, my hematocrit levels did not dramatically drop. My doctor advised additional research to identify any underlying medical issues that might be causing the increased levels.

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea, which is characterised by sporadic breathing while you sleep, after a series of tests. Oxygen levels in the blood can be impacted by sleep apnea, which can increase hematocrit. This diagnosis clarified a critical medical issue that needed to be addressed in my case.

I used a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) equipment for treatment of sleep apnea. My airways remained open because to this device's consistent airflow, which also enhanced the calibre of my sleep. My oxygen levels stabilised after receiving appropriate medication, which progressively caused my hematocrit levels to drop.

It was clearly a struggle to control my high hematocrit levels on a mental and physical level. But I wasn't going to allow my high hematocrit and fear rule my life. I turned to family and friends for support, I joined a support group, and I went to therapy to deal with the underlying anxiety that was exacerbating my health problems.

I kept at it and worked hard enough that my efforts started to pay off. My hematocrit levels gradually decreased over time, eventually falling inside the normal range, according to routine checkups with my doctor. My health problems and overall uneasiness were reduced by the decrease in hematocrit, which also offered a sense of peace.

I still put my health first today and properly control my high hematocrit levels. I've come to understand the value of taking care of oneself, managing my stress, and leading a healthy lifestyle. I've reclaimed control over my health and adopted a more balanced lifestyle by making wise decisions and getting the right professional advice.

By sharing my own experience, I hope to demonstrate the strength of tenacity and resiliency in overcoming obstacles to one's health. The path each person takes is different, but by putting self-care first and being proactive, it is possible to get over barriers and live a better, more satisfying life.
